The Facts: Sproles is staying away from Eagles OTAs. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports that the Eagles received calls of trade interest for the veteran RB in the middle rounds of the NFL Draft, per sources informed of his situation. Sproles is staying away from OTAs until the issue is sorted out.
Diehards Line:Rapoport added that the running back isn't frustrated by the situation, but is on the West Coast with his family while Eagles' practices commence. Sproles sits in line for a healthy workload in Philly as a perfect complement to the oft injured Ryan Mathews. The Eagles drafted Wendell Smallwood in the fifth-round, a player who flashes potential as a third-down back with good pass-catching skills. With Kenjon Barner also on the roster, the Eagles would have replacement-level options if they decided to move on from the 32-year-old Sproles. Seeing as these are voluntary workouts, it's not a huge deal for a veteran like Sproles to skip them and rest more in the offseason, at least until he's positive Philly will be home for 2016. We'll follow up as needed.
