The Facts: It's been just three weeks since the offseason workout program began, but the Osweiler is enjoying getting comfortable in his new offense. "It's fun," Osweiler said Monday. "It's hard to judge that progress because we haven't hit the practice field and gone against a defense, but it's like you speak Spanish your whole life and then all of a sudden one day, they tell you to go learn French and do it in front of 70,000 people."
Diehards Line:
This week, veterans and rookies will spend time in meetings and on the field for Phase Two of offseason workouts, a three-week period which includes on-field workouts with individual player instruction and drills. Coaches are allowed on the field, but no live contact or team offense vs. team defense drills are permitted. Osweiler believes his progress will be quicker because of his four seasons in Denver. He’s also had some experience with a similar system, having learned from Adam Gase, who served as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for the Broncos (2009-14) and is now head coach of the Dolphins. Gase worked on Josh McDaniel’s staff who served on Bill Belichick’s coaching staff during Bill O’Brien’s time with the Patriots. “There’s certainly some carryover from my previous four years which makes a lot of things a lot easier,” Osweiler said. For now, Osweiler is working on building a routine, getting to know his teammates, and just taking in as much as he can before the team breaks for camp. The Texans begin Phase Three, which includes a ten days of OTAs, on May 23.
