The Facts: There was a significant amount of optimism regarding Cruz, who declared he's 100 percent healthy, on Tuesday. The receiver himself, who stretched with the team and worked separately with trainers, said he "absolutely" can do everything and that if there were a regular-season game tomorrow he'd be on the field, but the Giants are going to take it slow while they can as a precaution. "He's running routes. He's working hard. He feels he's 100 percent," HC Ben McAdoo said. "But we're going to take it slow and we're going to take small steps with him. When we deem him ready, we'll put him on the field."
Diehards Line:
Cruz had season-ending surgery on a torn calf muscle late in 2015 after several failed attempts to play. He hasn’t played since Week 6 of the 2014 season, when he suffered a season-ending knee injury in Philadelphia. “I definitely believe in my abilities and believe in my talent level and believe if I’m healthy and will be out there alongside Odell and Eli and the rest of the offense, that I can compete at that high level and perform,” he said. Rueben Randle failed in his bid to become a legit No. 2 while Cruz was out. If the Giants truly believe Cruz can fill that void we may find out in coming days. If the team doesn't spend an early-round pick on a wide receiver, it would indicate at least some confidence Cruz is ready.
