The Facts: Brees' contract has been a talking point all offseason and discussion flared up again over the weekend with Ed Werder of ESPN's report that Brees offered to address his deal in order to create cap space to sign cornerback Josh Norman. During an appearance on NFL Network Tuesday, Brees didn't talk about any Norman-related offers while saying that he expects talks with the Saints about a new contract may take all offseason. "No, I mean listen, conversations are ongoing and as this usually goes with contract talks, it kind of goes throughout the offseason," Brees said. "As soon as there's something to report I'll let you know."
Diehards Line:
The Saints have spent some time looking at quarterbacks during the pre-draft process and Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports they had some talks about making a bid for the No. 1 pick to select one. They could still try to make a play for Paxton Lynch or another quarterback later in the first round, something that would likely have some impact how the ongoing talks with Brees unfold since the Saints would obviously be thinking about life without their longtime starter in the lineup.
