The Facts: The Detroit Lions will not trade Stafford. At least, that was general manager Bob Quinn's statement Thursday, when he was asked about the recent predraft trades that netted the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns a bounty of picks. "I haven't thought about that and I have no interest in trading Matthew," Quinn said at his predraft news conference.
Diehards Line:The Rams traded the No. 1 overall pick last week to the Titans, along with a fourth-and sixth-rounder. In exchange, the Titans got two second-rounders, a third-rounder and the Rams' first- and third-round picks in 2017. On Wednesday, the Browns traded the No. 2 pick and a fourth-rounder to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for five draft picks, including the No. 8 pick this year, a first-rounder in 2017 and a second-rounder in 2018. But Stafford would be an entirely different animal on the trading block. Putting aside the debatable nature of his production since he was the No. 1 pick in 2009, he has a big contract that will pay him $17 million this season and $16.5 million next year.
