The Facts: The Chargers spent the 15th overall pick in last year's draft on Gordon, and they didn't get what they were hoping for: Gordon averaged 3.5 yards a carry, never scored a touchdown and fumbled six times. As he begins his first full offseason in San Diego, Gordon admits he has to demonstrate that he was worth that first-round pick. "Oh, I have something to prove," Gordon told the team's website.
Diehards Line:
Gordon, who is said to be recovered from knee surgery that ended his rookie season early, continued: “In the NFL, I think every player has something to prove. You can never be complacent. Even if I had the greatest season of any rookie, I’d still be motivated. Unfortunately, my season didn’t go the way I wanted it, so I’m extra motivated.” Despite what he calls a “terrible” rookie season, Gordon believes he knows what he has to do. "There are things I didn’t know as a rookie that I know now," he explained. "There are things that you can only learn from playing the game. I understand the game better now. ..." As PFT suggests, if Gordon can play well enough to prove he was worth the 15th overall pick, that would go a long way toward turning around the Chargers’ fortunes.
