The Facts: Each year, Rivers puts together a to-do list based on his performance from the previous season. Rivers said he missed some short throws in 2015 and wants to improve his accuracy in the short passing game for the upcoming season. "There were too many missed throws," Rivers said. "I try and chart them in my mind of where they missed. Was there a pressure? All those different variables are things that factor in. And there were too many where I had to acknowledge that was just a miss."
Diehards Line:
According to ESPN.com's Eric Williams, on throws between 11 and 20 yards, Rivers posted a 93.0 total QBR, No. 10 in the NFL. While those are solid numbers, Rivers believes he can be even better on those throws. The short passing game will be an area of focus for the Chargers during the offseason, with Ken Whisenhunt returning as the team’s OC. “I think just being more precise," Rivers said of his focus. "We’ve competed a decent percentage over the last few years, but all of those little things should be gimmes, like a 3-foot putt. So we can’t get bored with those, because those have been good to us. But we did leave our fair share of those out there last year.” In addition to the short passes, taking care of his body is another priority for the 34-year-old Rivers, who has started 160 straight games, second among active leaders only to Eli Manning (183). “It’s an endurance position,” Rivers said. “You’ve got to be able to last for 20 weeks, manage the hits and still be strong. So I’ve kind of geared my workouts and things like that toward that, as opposed to what you did when you were in your 20s.”
