The Facts: The day has arrived when Allen rejoins teammates for the start of the Chargers' voluntary workout program. Phase one of a nine-week regimen features two weeks of strength and conditioning. Allen will be a full participant Monday, the injury that ended a banner season mid-breath well behind him.
Diehards Line:
He lacerated his kidney Nov. 1 on that touchdown in Baltimore. The ailment ended his season but not before eight games from which he can build. The 23-year-old tied Kellen Winslow’s single-game franchise record with 15 receptions in Week 1, good for 166 yards. In Week 6, he caught 14 passes in less than three quarters, picking apart the Packers’ man coverage, before exiting with a hip flexor injury. In all, over the first eight games (six of which were full), he caught 67 passes, tied for third-most in NFL history, with 725 yards and four scores. The missed time last year isn't likely to diminish his value much this season, but with a number of high-end wideouts on most draft lists, Allen will provide some value this summer.
