The Facts: Following up on the ongoing story. ... NFL Network's Ian Rapoport spoke with someone who watched Brock Osweiler's workouts with the Texans WRs. "Brock has looked good," Rapoport noted before adding: "DeAndre Hopkins has apparently been unreal."
Diehards Line:
It's always nice to get positive reports from these private workouts, but it's good to remember there are no defenders and the next player who doesn't look good in an informal session will probably be the first ever. Often this information is doled out in advance of contract talks. That being the case, it's worth noting that Hopkins is entering the fourth and final year of a $7.637 million rookie contract. He can be placed under contract through the 2017 season with the Texans exercising a fifth-year team option by May 3. That's what's expected to happen, but a long-term deal is the ultimate goal for Hopkins, who's coming off a breakthrough season in which he caught 111 passes for 1,521 yards and a franchise-record 11 touchdowns. The addition of Osweiler could help -- although Hopkins has proven to be relatively QB-proof from a fantasy perspective, hauling in 239 passes for 3,533 yards and 19 touchdowns in his first three seasons despite playing with an series of less-than impressive signal callers.
