The Facts: After missing out on C.J. Anderson, the Dolphins moving in on another CJ: former Cards' RB Johnson, who's visiting Miami today.
Diehards Line:The Dolphins need to make up for the loss of running back Lamar Miller, who signed a four-year, $24 million deal with the Houston Texans last week. Miller was Miami’s starter the last three seasons. Jay Ajayi, last year’s fifth-round pick, Damien Williams, who was used mostly as a third-down specialist last season, and Jahwan Edwards, who spent a couple weeks on the practice squad last year are the only running backs on the Dolphins’ roster. According to South Florida Sun-Sentinel staffer Alfred Morris, Ronnie Hillman and James Starks are other possibilities. The Dolphins must find a multi-purpose tailback because new HC Adam Gase plans to lean heavily on that position in Miami's new offense. The Chicago Bears ran the ball 468 times last season when Gase was their offensive coordinator, and averaged more rushing attempts (29.2) than all but five teams. Chicago’s tailbacks also caught 70 passes in Gase’s offense, so that position will likely be an integral part of the Dolphins’ passing game moving forward. ... Remember: Profootballtalk.com's Mike Florio reported last night, before news of this visit, that Johnson could be signed more quickly than expected.
