The Facts: According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Eagles have made it known that it's not just DeMarco Murray who is available, but Mathews, as well, for the right price.
Diehards Line:
We've been hearing talk since the season ended suggesting that Murray would like out of Philadelphia and that the Eagles might be willing to trade him. This is the first we've heard, however, that Mathews might be available as well. Mathews was arguably the team's best running back last season, finishing with 539 yards and six touchdowns on 106 carries. He is under contract next season for $4 million, the second year of a three-year, $11 million deal he signed last offseason. The Eagles could be attempting to move Mathews knowing that they will be stuck with Murray, who counts $8 million against the cap next season, and $13 million if they decide to release him. Combined, the Eagles have $12 million committed to Murray and Mathews, with an additional $4.1 million on the books for Darren Sproles. As NJ.com's Eliot Shorr-Parks suggested, the $16 million the Eagles have committed to their running backs is not ideal, especially considering how many view players at the position as interchangeable.
