The Facts: The Bengals have re-signed Tate, their veteran wide receiver and return man, keeping him off the free agent market that opens next week.
Diehards Line:
Tate has spent the last five years with the Bengals and is the franchise’s career leader in punt returns and punt return yards, He’s also played as a backup wide receiver and has 33 receptions, three for touchdowns, over the last five seasons. Tate has played in 102 consecutive games dating back to 2010 with the Patriots. Though Tate is not a starter, his return provides the Bengals some insurance in the return game and wide receiver group with wide receivers Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu and cornerback/returner Adam Jones eligible for free agency. Sanu is said to be of interest to the Giants while Jones could draw widespread interest once he hits the open market.
