The Facts: HC Jay Gruden told reporters that Jones will be ready OTAs after having minor groin-related surgery.
Diehards Line:
Though the Redskins drafted Jones with a third-round pick in 2015 with every expectation he’d be a “lead dog” running back, Gruden said that Jones would have to work on ball security and durability before he’s ready to shoulder that load. The coach added that Jones is capable of being that No. 1 option and also brushed off a suggestion that the return of running back Alfred Morris was “a long shot.” Gruden was, however, non-committal about the likelihood of the striking a new deal with the soon-to-be-free agent. “There’s not one negative thing I can say about Alfred Morris, as a player or a man,” Gruden said. “We wish him well if we don’t get [a contract] done.” The Redskins' backfield will be another situation worth watching this offseason.
