The Facts: In the aftermath of Chicago's decision to move forward without Matt Forte and Jermon Bushrod, ESPN.com's Jeff Dickerson thinks Bennett is also on the bubble.
Diehards Line:
Why? Dickerson explained, "Bennett is a valuable commodity, but both sides might be ready for a clean break. ..." In addition, the organization clearly wasn’t thrilled when Bennett missed the entire voluntary offseason program last year because of unhappiness about his contract. Several months later, and still without an extension, Bennett voiced frustration to reporters about his diminished role on offense. Again, Dickerson believes those comments likely did not go over well with the head coach and front office. Chicago eventually placed Bennett on injured reserve with fractured ribs, ending his season with 53 receptions for 439 yards and three touchdowns. Now, the only way for Bennett to make more money in 2016 is to play somewhere else. He knows it. And the Bears probably don’t want the headache again next season. That’s why a trade is the best solution for both parties.
