The Facts: The Rams announced Friday they have released defensive end Chris Long, linebacker James Laurinaitis and Cook.
Diehards Line:
"This is the time of year when all NFL teams are faced with difficult decisions regarding their veteran players," HC Jeff Fisher said in a statement. Cook has been a disappointment and should be more productive. With a $8.3 million cap charge in 2016 that includes a $7 million base salary, it was time for the team to move on. The releases of Long and Laurinaitis will add to the cap room. The three combined accounted for $23 million this year. ... As for the TE situation, Lance Kendricks doesn't have the athletic ability of Cook, but is reliable as a receiver and is a good blocker. If Cory Harkey can be re-signed, he could see more playing time. This should be a position the Rams address in the offseason.
