The Facts: GM Rick Spielman says 2016 will allow him to make a final evaluation of what Patterson will be as an NFL player: "Don't know that yet. I think this will be a telltale year, I would say."

Diehards Line: These kind of comments are nothing new when it comes to Patterson. In fact, putting Patterson on notice heading into the offseason has become an annual ritual in Minnesota. And with good reason. In 48 games, he has started 14 of them, including just one in 2015. This past year, he caught two passes for 10 yards and spent the majority of his time on the field as the Vikings' primary kick returner. He racked up 1,019 return yards this season and scored twice. This year, he only costs the Vikings $1,009,687 plus a handful of roster and workout bonuses, which is not awful for a special teams ace. But until he is something more, Spielman, HC Mike Zimmer and OC Norv Turner are likely to continue calling him out. And fantasy owners should continue to lay off Patterson until they see signs of a possible offensive emergence with their own eyes.
