The Facts: Devonta Freeman was the only running back with more touchdowns than Johnson's 13 in 2015. From the time he entered the starting lineup in Week 13, no NFL player averaged more yards from scrimmage per game than Johnson's 131.7. Johnson showcased such an impressive, well-rounded skill set down the stretch that NFL.com stressed that belief on multiple occasions that he is already one of the top seven or eight running backs in the league. GM Steve Keim bolstered that sentiment, recently telling the team's official team website that it's "scary" to think how good Johnson will be once he develops beyond merely "scratching the surface."
Diehards Line:This comes in the wake of reporting by FOXSports 910's Mike Jurecki indicating the Cardinals have every intention of making Johnson their "bell cow" back this fall. It makes sense. Johnson's explosive, play-making ability will make it hard to keep the second-year man off the field -- even though Andre Ellington will contribute in a change of pace role. It remains to be seen if Chris Johnson, who led the team in rushing last season, will return. But expect the younger Johnson to handle the lead role regardless.
