The Facts: GM Les Snead says the franchise erred in handing the starting quarterback job to Nick Foles before the start of training camp last season. According to Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com and Sirius XM NFL Radio, Snead said the Rams will have an open competition for the job in 2016 between Foles, Case Keenum and any other quarterback that happens to be on the roster come July. "If I learned one thing last year we should have let the quarterbacks have a competition from the start and the best man win instead of just passing the torch to Nick," Snead said.
Diehards Line:
As PFT's Curtis Crabtree reminded readers, Foles’ success with the Eagles gave the Rams confidence he deserved to be the team’s starter from day one. However, it didn’t go as smoothly as the team had envisioned. Foles completed just 56.4 percent of his passes in 11 games as the team’s starter. Foles passed for 2,052 yards with just seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Snead also said the team’s receiving corps didn’t do enough to help the quarterbacks out either. "We had a chance to win four straight at the end of the year. Every wide receiver that dressed out dropped one ball that day. You can’t have that,” Snead said.
