The Facts: Mathews recently underwent groin surgery, per ESPN's Adam Caplan. Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News added that Mathews is expected to face a six-week recovery time.
Diehards Line:
Mathews dealt with the groin injury during the season. Former HC Chip Kelly said Mathews injured his groin on a 63-yard touchdown run against Carolina and claimed it was the reason Mathews was used sparingly in that game. Mathews later confirmed he injured his groin on that run. The 28-year-old missed three games with a concussion this year. Mathews, who signed a three-year contract before the season, was second on the team with 539 rushing yards, but finished with a 5.0 yards per carry average, the best on the team. Mathews was clearly more productive than Murray in 2015, but Murray signed a big five-year deal before the season.
