The Facts: The Giants have placed Fells on injured-reserve due to a staph infection in his ankle.
Diehards Line:Fells spent the weekend in the hospital and had multiple surgeries, New Jersey Advance Media reported. The Giants had listed Fells as probable for their game Sunday in Buffalo, but when he was hospitalized the team promoted Will Tye from the practice squad. Fells started nine games last season, his first with the Giants, and re-signed with the team in the offseason. Though Larry Donnell is the team’s primary pass-catching tight end, Fells played consistent snaps, mostly as a blocker.
