The Facts: On Saturday, Jones said he was happy he would no longer have to be sitting out after getting back to playing football for the first time in a calendar year. When the full pads went on for the first time in Cincinnati Bengals training camp on Monday, however, Jones was indeed sitting out. The wide receiver did not practice when the team starting hitting that afternoon, and he also missed the full contact session on Tuesday. On Monday, HC Marvin Lewis said Jones missed practice due to "sore legs."
Diehards Line:
On Tuesday, Jones worked out on the side field with the other injured Bengals. "Marvin's got to get to practice if Marvin wants to get to play," Lewis said. "That's part of it. He hasn't played football for us in a year, basically. He had two or three practices or whatever he had last year in the fall. Marvin's got to get prepared to play NFL football." Jones participated in organized training activities once he passed his physical. When asked if Jones' absence was due to any lingering issues with his foot or if it was due to a new ailment, Lewis wouldn't specify, only allowing that Jones has to "be like everybody else and find a way to get out there and get going." We've all seen the upside Jones offers the offense. But he has to be on the field to do it.
