The Facts: The attorney for Justin Hunter paints a different picture from what Virginia Beach, Va., officials have said about what happened on the night that led to the receiver's arrest last month. "I can tell you I'm confident that Justin didn't do what he's been charged with and that I have significant concerns about the credibility of the accuser," attorney Toby Vick said Monday. "I think our evidence will show, and I'm not going into specific details, that maybe even the group that includes the guy bringing the charges were the aggressors."
Diehards Line:
A former second-round pick entering his third season, Hunter was arrested in Virginia Beach in late July and charged with one count of felonious assault. Officers were called to a large fight July 3 at the Sandbar Raw Bar on Atlantic Avenue, according to a news release from the Virginia Beach Police Department. A man was later admitted to a local hospital for treatment of injuries. Prosecutors have alleged that Hunter, 24, was the aggressor that night and that he repeatedly punched a man in the face. Vick said he also believes Hunter was singled out in what he described as a tussle at the bar. Vick said he's kept the NFL apprised of all the developments in the case (the league is monitoring the situation). Hunter's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 3. ... We'll follow up as needed.
