The Facts: Davis does not lack for confidence. The third-year runner swatted down the idea that Kansas City can't afford to rest Jamaal Charles come September, saying that he is every bit the equal of the All-Pro back. "I don't feel like there's a gap," Davis said this week, per ESPN.com's Adam Teicher.
Diehards Line:As NFL.com suggests, there certainly is a gap -- statistically, a vast one. The truth is, Davis has rarely been given a chance at the lead role, starting just a pair of games over his first two NFL seasons. Charles is the reason for that. Davis' 3.5 yards per carry off 204 attempts is a far cry from the 5.5 yards per rush that Charles has churned out over seven outstanding seasons. "He's the starter. It's his time. I'm waiting (until) my time," Davis said, adding that he doesn't doubt that Charles can fulfill his goal of playing another six years. In other words, if Davis wants a shot at a lead role, it likely won't be in Kansas City.
