The Facts: Not long ago, in response to a report that the Seahawks and Wilson were “very close” to a new deal, PFT explained that talks hadn’t even begun. Per multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, the two sides have since started talking. However, they’re not making much, if any, progress.
Diehards Line:According to PFT's Mike Florio, there’s no immediate deadline; Wilson is under contract for 2015. But he has been a bargain for the first three years of his career and there’s a widespread sense that he deserves a new contract. The question becomes how much will be enough? At a deeper level, Florio suggests, the question also becomes whether Wilson is willing to undermine his team-player, nice-guy image by driving a hard bargain aimed at gobbling up cap space that could otherwise be used to keep a great roster around him? Florio summed up: "Already believed to be resented by some in the locker room, that dynamic would get even worse if Wilson’s pay were bumped from less than $1 million per year to more than $20 million annually. ..." We suspect not that much worse as long as Russell continues leading the team to post-season success.
