The Facts: The Browns announced Thursday afternoon a one-year contract with Housler, who spent his first four seasons with the Cardinals. The deal is worth $1.76 million ($750,000 signing bonus), as first reported by Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.
Diehards Line:The 6-5, 250-pounder also had visited with the Bengals and Falcons. The Ravens were interested, as well. The tight end caught a combined 84 passes for 871 yards in the 2012 and 2013 seasons before falling out of favor in Arizona last year. The move eases the loss of former Pro Bowl tight end Jordan Cameron, who signed a two-year, $15 million contract with the Dolphins. The club also targeted free agent Charles Clay, but he chose to sign with the Bills. If Housler, who visited the Browns on Wednesday, had gone elsewhere the Browns might have needed to dedicate a high pick to a position that's not very deep in the draft. As NFL.com suggested, in an offense with Dwayne Bowe, Brian Hartline, Andrew Hawkins and Taylor Gabriel as the best receivers at the moment and no other pass-catching tight end, we expect Housler to see plenty of targets in 2015.
