The Facts: On Monday, the Journal learned that the Patriots have shown interest in the Helu, who just finished up his fourth season in the NFL.
Diehards Line:
The 26-year-old is a logical replacement for Shane Vereen, who is also a free agent. Helu caught 42 passes on 47 targets for 477 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games this past season. By comparison, Vereen caught 52 passes for 447 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games. It is, however, expected that Vereen could cost more, especially after his 11-catch performance in Super Bowl XLIX. Helu might cost the Patriots less, but they're not the one team bidding for the running back's services. The Boston Herald reports there are two other teams in the running and according to NJ.com, the New York Giants are one.
