The Facts: From the moment the Jets traded for receiver Brandon Marshall, speculation commenced about the identity of his QB. With the new regime of G.M. Mike Maccagnan and HC Todd Bowles having no loyalty to Geno Smith, the Jets will likely at least explore other options. While Jay Cutler seems like a natural given his connection to Marshall, the WR has played in another town, with a QB who was voted his team's MVP in 2011. That's the same year Todd Bowles was promoted from DC to interim head coach in Miami, after the firing of Tony Sparano. The QB was Moore, who is due to become a free agent on Tuesday.
Diehards Line:
Although he and Marshall have twice played together, in Denver and in Chicago, the Jets reportedly aren't interested in Cutler. But Moore? Really? In 12 starts four years ago, he completed 2,497 yards, averaged 7.2 yards per attempt, threw 16 TD passes and nine interceptions, and generated a passer rating of 87.2. In 2013, the Dolphins gave Moore a two-year, $8 million contract to remain the backup to Ryan Tannehill. A reunion with Bowles and Marshall could give Moore a chance to start again, for the first time since the final game of the 2011 season -- which was a 19-17 win over the Jets. In making the case for Moore, PFT's Mike Florio pointed to the limited options and asked who might be better: Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has played for OC Chan Gailey? Sticking with Smith? Brian Hoyer? Matt Schaub? While bringing Moore in as a starter seems like a reach, Florio's point is taken. We'll be watching for more.
