The Facts: After first reporting there wouldn't necessarily force Harvin out in New York, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reversed field later Friday and reported that the Jets are expected to release Harvin, their playmaking wideout, after sending a fifth-round pick to the Chicago Bears on Friday for the 30-year-old, pass-catching Marshall.
Diehards Line:
The reversal certainly makes more sense than the original report with Harvin set to make $10.5 million this season and the Jets suddenly on the hook to pay $7.5 million to Marshall with another $5 million going to fellow wide receiver Eric Decker. In addition, Jeremy Kerley got a four-year $16 million deal last year. ... Again, Harvin is sure to find work elsewhere, but not at his current cost. One potential target: The Patriots. According to NFL.com, HC Bill Belichick has nursed an open fascination with Harvin for years and Boston Globe staffer Chris Gasper recently floated the notion that New England might be interested. ...
