The Facts: Following up on a previous item. ... Already hard at work in ironing out a new deal for DE Jerry Hughes, there's another meeting taking place with the representatives for Spiller in Indianapolis. According to Bills GM Doug Whaley there has been dialogue between the two sides, but there's some work to be done if the two sides are to reach an accord. "We're hoping we can close the gap and get the deal done," Whaley said.
Diehards Line:
Whaley added the two sides have exchanged proposals and counterproposals so the dialogue has been healthy. It's just a matter of whether an agreement amenable to both sides can be brokered. Spiller is coming off a second straight season that was compromised by injury. After fighting through a high ankle sprain that kept him from making use of his trademark speed and quickness in 2013, the running back missed seven games due to a freak collar bone injury in Week 7 that required surgery. Whether the Bills and Spiller can agree on his value is the key question. With work still to be done to reach an agreement with Spiller, it sounds likely for talks to stretch beyond the duration of the NFL Combine. Assuming Spiller hits the open market next month, the Jets are expected to be interested.
