The Facts: Oft-injured, first-round bust Locker, who will be an unrestricted free agent next month, could have a potential suitor in the Eagles.
Diehards Line:
That is the informed-opinion of a long-time player agent, who has another quarterback about to be a free agent. According to the agent, who spoke with Star-Ledger staffer Mark Eckel anonymously, there will be interest from the Eagles and head coach/personnel czar Chip Kelly in the 8th overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. Locker, who played his college football at Kelly's favorite conference (the Pac-12) when he was at the University of Washington, was selected by the Tennessee Titans with the 8th overall pick of the '11 draft. An assortment of injuries and an offense that didn't fit his skills has made Locker one of several disappointing first-round picks in that draft, including the Eagles selection of Baylor guard Danny Watkins. The agent did not know if Kelly was interested in Locker to challenge for a starting job, or just to replace Mark Sanchez, who is also a free agent, as the team's No. 2 quarterback. Kelly, who has yet to speak publicly since the day after the Eagles' final game of the season, has yet to endorse Nick Foles as his starting quarterback. And there have been rampant trade rumors involving Foles to the St. Louis Rams among other teams. Locker does seem more suited in an offense where the quarterback has the option to move out of the pocket than he does in the Titans' drop-back style. ... Of course, there will be no shortage of speculation on the Eagles' plans unless and/or until Kelly reveals his plans. And we all know that's not going to happen. So steel yourself.
