The Facts: Roberts currently sits atop the Redskins’ depth chart at punt and kickoff returner, receiver said Thursday. “Right now, I am,” Roberts said as training camp opened. “You never know during training camp what they’re going to do. [It could] depend on how much they use me on offense. ... Right now, I’m on top. But we’ll see.”
Diehards Line:Roberts, who signed a four-year, $16 million contract in March, also made it clear that he still expects to be major contributor on offense as the No. 3 wide receiver behind Pierre Garçon and DeSean Jackson. The Redskins struggled mightily in the return game last season, ranking 28th in average punt return (6.4 yards) and dead last on kickoffs (20.0), despite using multiple players in those roles. It's worth noting that Jackson has proven to be a capable punt returner, but it's not clear Washington will use him in that role.
