The Facts: Amid word that contract negotiations with Smith's camp aren't progressing well, HC Andy Reid joined NFL Network on Tuesday to suggest that his starting signal-caller wouldn't become a free agent after this season. "Well, there's open communication between both parties. Now, I'm not in that business anymore -- that's (general manager) John Dorsey's side of it -- but there's been open communication," Reid said.
Diehards Line:
Reid continued: "I've always believed that if there's open communication, then normally good things happen. So, I'm sure something will get done. I can't put a time frame on that, but I'm sure something will get done." Dorsey also told SiriusXM NFL Radio's Alex Marvez last week that Smith and the Chiefs were "going back and forth." Despite drafting rookie passer Aaron Murray, the Chiefs sound interested in re-signing Smith. Expect a deal to happen, but at Kansas City's pace and Kansas City's price -- not Smith's.
