The Facts: Hixon had barely gotten started in the Bears’ competition at wide receiver. Now, his 2014 season is finished. The ninth-year veteran suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Tuesday’s organized team activities, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to the Tribune.
Diehards Line:Hixon announced the injury Tuesday evening on his Facebook page and wrote “I’m disappointed that I won’t be playing for a bears team that has the players and coaches to WIN the Super Bowl. I thank God for letting me live my dream of playing in the NFL for 8 years plus. It has truly been FUN! #blessed #lovethisgame” This is the third ACL tear for Hixon in his career. He signed a one-year deal with the Bears in March and was in line to compete for the team’s No. 3 receiver duties along with Marquess Wilson, Josh Morgan and Chris Williams. Hixon also has experience as a returner and was being evaluated there as well.
