The Facts: During a Friday radio appearance, Baldwin discussed his contract status, which remains unresolved. “It’s going to take some time,” he said. “It’s just the process of going through the negotiations, that’s just what it is. … It’s still very early in the stages of the conversation and I don’t know how long it’s going to take. But hopefully we can get something done soon.”
Diehards Line:To recap, the team placed a second-round tender on Baldwin, who was a restricted free agent, which means he would get $2.18 million for the 2014 season. Baldwin, though, wants a longer-term deal and he and the team have been in talks about a new contract for a few weeks now. Baldwin, in fact, said that the Seahawks have made an offer and he responded with a counteroffer. What Baldwin said he won’t do, though, is hold out. He said he will sign the tender to play if a long-term deal is not worked out. “If we are unable to reach an agreement I will sign the tender, play that out, and then be an unrestricted free agent (in 2015),” he said. He said sitting out the season “would not allow me to pursue my passion for playing football. So sitting out does nothing for me. I’m going to play this season whether it’s on the tender or under an extension.” That's a great approach, one that fantasy football owners can appreciate.
