The Facts: It might be difficult for Latimer, the Broncos second-round draft pick, to get off to a fast rookie start in 2014. The former Indiana University receiver will be limited until training camp as he recovers from a fractured fifth metatarsal in his foot.
Diehards Line:
According to Post staffer Mike Klis, Latimer had surgery to repair the break on Jan. 19 and missed all but the bench press at the NFL scouting combine in late-February. However, at Indiana's Pro Day on March 26, Latimer was timed at 4.39 and 4.43 in the 40-yard dash. Latimer also had an impressive 39-inch vertical jump during his pro day workout. No doubt, Latimer's encouraging Pro Day performance coupled with the Broncos' previous experience with receivers Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker helped sway the team into believing the rookie will fully recover - even if it means taking it easy this season. Thomas had suffered a broken foot while participating in a cone drill in preparation for the combine in 2010. The Broncos took him in the first round, anyway, and Thomas has emerged as the team's top receiver. The Broncos drafted Decker in the third round of the same 2010 draft even though the Minnesota receiver was recovering from a sprained Lisfranc. All that said, fantasy football owners should remember that Latimer will open camp behind Thomas, Wes Welker and Emmanuel Sanders.
