The Facts: According to a report in the Tampa Tribune, the Bucs have tendered Stovall with a contract that would require compensation of his original draft position if another team signs him away from the Buccaneers.
Diehards Line:Stovall was a third-round pick of the Bucs in 2006 and he was given an original draft position tender, which carries with it a $1.176 million salary for 2010. According to PewterReport.com, the move was expected. Stovall, a top special teams player, did a good job filling in for injured starters Antonio Bryant and Michael Clayton throughout the 2009 season. Because they worked together as backups for the early part of the year, Stovall and QB Josh Freeman had some good chemistry. With Bryant leaving the Buccaneers, Stovall is likely to compete to be a starter next season.
