Chase Watch - Report #2

With one race down and only nine more to go, stress is already proving to put some teams and individual drivers into a state of panic. Kyle Busch was the driver, who has dominated the first twenty six races building up to the chase, and he finished last weekend at New Hampshire in 34th dropping his point standings by 7 positions. Matt Kenseth received the worst part of the chase deal by finishing 40th with really no damper to his chase standings. Jeff Gordon and Clint Bowyer finished the Sylvania 300 with disappointing Top 15's. It may only be one race out of ten, but chasers know that every place they finish in a race counts. It counts big.

Front Line Chasers

Carl Edwards
Roush Fenway Racing - Ford
Point Standings: 1st
I would definitely single out Carl for a contention for the win against newest rival Kyle Busch. Carl won last September and Kyle Busch is the defending race champion for the June race. Carl holds the top spot for best average finish with an 8.3.

Greg Biffle
Roush Fenway Racing - Ford
Point Standings: 3rd
It shocked a lot of racing fans last weekend at New Hampshire when Greg won the premier race of the 2008 Sprint Cup chase. I knew he had it in him and he also has the chance to follow that win up with a Top five finish at DIS. Greg has posted two Top 5 finishes in his last two races at Dover.

Jeff Burton
Richard Childress Racing - Chevrolet
Point Standings: 5th
Jeff is hungry to increase his ranking in the chase, but with two Top 10's in his last two races, he is more likely to stay exactly where he is; 5th in points.

Kyle Busch
Joe Gibbs Racing - Toyota
Point Standings: 8th
Kyle may have been the one chaser with the worst luck ever for the first race of the chase at NHIS, but he is going to come back for the second race and win it. Kyle won the race at Dover back in June and finished in the Top 5 last September. Kyle is in the Top three for best average finishes at Dover.

Last Lap Challenge Chasers

Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Hendricks Motorsports - Chevrolet
Point Standings: 4th
Dale doesn't fair consistently well at Dover, but his did mange to finish 3rd in the September race of 2007. It looks like he may loose a few spots in the chase if he doesn't do better than finishing 15th, which is where he usually does at DIS.

Bottom 25 Chasers
Denny Hamlin
Joe Gibbs Racing - Toyota
Point Standings: 6th
Denny is about to find out what it feels like to be at the bottom of the chase pole after Sunday's race at Dover. A lot of experts predict that DIS is a promising track for Denny's racing skills, but his latest stats prove otherwise. Denny has 2 Top 10's and a single Top 5 for his five starts at Dover.
