Turn 4 Transitions
by Natalie Anthony

A 1 - 2...a 1 – 2 - 3 - 4… Give it up for the Bare Naked Ladies! If you want to see and hear the Bare Naked Ladies, you have to be track side at Richmond International Raceway (RIR) for the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 or tune into TNT. It will be a night… race to remember. Not only will you be rocked and shocked by the musical entertainment, you will bare witness to the last race for the Chase of the NASCAR Nextel Cup series. Several drivers will be just making their left turn rounds, but thanks to his recent win at California Speedway, Kasey Kahne is the only driver left who has a chance to take the last slot for the 10th position in the chase. Either way, Kasey will be in the chase or he will take home the coveted 11th place $1,000,000. This weekend is a make or break your bubble weekend.

The Checkered Four
(Current point standings)

Dale Earnhardt Jr. (6th) DEI – Chevrolet – As the defending champion at RIR, Dale has won twice here and finished 5 times in the top 5 for his 9 race career at this track. With a terrible season last year due to not making the chase, Dale sits nicely in the 9th position. He has proven his patience and experience on short tracks and since it is the last race for the chase at a short track; Dale is good to go.

Denny Hamlin (7th) Joe Gibbs Racing - Chevrolet – Hometown racer Denny did not fail his local fan base back here in May, because he finished 2nd his first time out at the Crown Royal 400. If you saw him at Bristol, that rookie can bump and run like a veteran on the short tracks.

Kyle Busch (5th) Hendrick Motorsports – Chevrolet – Kyle is going to out rank his brother in the points this season. At Richmond, with only 3 starts under his fire suit, he has 2 top 10’s and 1 top 5. It would be just plain stupid not to pick him for this race. Look for him to match his car number and place again in the top 5. Go Kyle.

Ryan Newman (16th) Penske Racing South – Dodge – The Rocket man has had 1 win here back in 2003, one pole in 2004, and has an average finish in the top 10 for his last 9 races. Ryan came in second 3 times for the pole and finished 8th here at the last race. You bet if he doesn’t take the pole, he will take a top 10 finish.

Underdogs
(Current point standings)

Clint Bowyer (18th) Richard Childress Racing – Chevrolet – With Clint’s first time out at RIR in May, he finished in the top 10. With an impressive record so far this season, ranking 18th in points and 2nd for this season’s rookie crop, Clint will not disappoint.

Scott Riggs (19th) Evernham Motorsports – Dodge - Scott is one of my all time favorite underdogs. If he can match teammate Kasey Kahne’s set up and mimic him on the track, Scott will do well. He has all the hardware to make it happen and the owner to back him. In his first year with Evernham, he finished 14th in his last race here at RIR.

Most likely to be a lap down
(Current point standings)

Casey Mears (15th) Chip Ganassi Racing – Dodge – Casey has driven around this track 2,800 laps and his best finish is 17th. Need I say more? Huh, do I?

Brian Vickers (20th) Hendrick Motorsports – Chevrolet - Out of 5 races at RIR, Brian consistently (at least in 3 races) has finished 37th. He did finished 8th back in 2004, but isn’t 2006? What have you done for me lately? Don’t even take a second look. I dare you.
