Kasey Kahne – 2009 Pep Boys Auto 500 winner!

Emory Healthcare 500

September 5, 2010 (Sunday)

7:30 pm – ESPN

Excitement is abundant and swarming around Atlanta this weekend since the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series is making their trek to the hot temperatures of Georgia.  So, why was Atlanta donned the nickname "Hotlanta."  Well, "hot" weather is a given, but does a boiling climate provide enough merit for a city  to synonymously rename themselves after a volatile temperature?  Atlantians will also profess their hot name also portrays their social atmosphere, but NASCAR Nation knows very well that it isn't really burning in Georgia at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) until the stock cars arrive.  Not to mention the spike in degrees when sizzling drivers like Kasey Kahne, Jamie McMurray, or Dale Earnhardt Jr. hit the track.

The red hot paint scheme and fire suit of the #9 car driven by Kasey Kahne is going to be scorching once he makes another attempt to take the checkered flag.  Kasey won this race back in 2009 and finished 4th this season in March when the Sprint Cup Series hit AMS.  Tony Stewart maybe "Smoke", but Kasey Kahne will be on fire this Sunday.  The Chase for the Sprint Cup has not gone cold for Kasey so any efforts this weekend are going to be directed toward gaining points and winning.

With a win under his belt for dominating the race at Watkins Glen this season, Juan Pablo Montoya has the same opportunity to turn up the heat at Atlanta since he finished 3rd his last two races at AMS.  It is going to be tough for Juan to steal a win since so many other drivers regard AMS as one of their favorite tracks.

On the edge of being too hot to handle, Kevin Harvick wants to set up his momentum for his favorite track and the last race for the chase at Richmond International Raceway by mimicking his racing strategy at AMS and by being competitive enough to finish in the Top 10 at Atlanta.  Kevin was one spot shy of winning the race in 2009 for the Pep Boys Auto 500.

A blistering finish at AMS is exactly what Greg Biffle needs to maintain his 11th spot in the standings since he is not locked into the Chase for the Sprint Cup.  Greg placed in the Top Ten his last two racing attempts at Atlanta, so as long as Greg races clean and nothing unluckily breaks on his car, Greg will be set in the Chase.

Happy Labor Day!
