Sharpie 500
August 21, 2010 (Saturday)
7:30 pm – ABC
Kyle Busch – 2009 Sharpie 500 winner!
Finally, some of the drivers of
NASCAR have found a place to call home next year. Kasey Kahne caught a ride with Red Bull Racing until he
takes the red carpet to Hendrick Motorsports. I would rather drink Budweiser, but I think I
can make the change to Red Bull for my favorite driver. Casey Mears picks
up something a little more permanent with Germain
Racing. Casey should be running at least
eighteen races with them in the 2011 season.
Marcos Ambrose is taking over the #9 car
at Richard Petty Motorsports.
The Camping World Truck race ended
in dramatic fashion with Kyle Busch racing from
the back of the pack to take the win.
Kyle is going to make another attempt this season for the Bristol Trifecta. Busch
would be the only driver in history to win on all three Series in the same
weekend at Bristol
if he can dominate in the Nationwide Series race tonight and reign supreme
tomorrow night in the Cup Series.
A sibling who may not be having the
same luck as his brother, but is still a driver that makes other drivers watch
their front and back corner panels is Kurt Busch.
Kurt’s chase dreams are solid so the only other thing he needs to do for
the next three races is be the first to take the checkered flag. Kurt has gotten two Top Five’s his last
couple times racing at BMS, so his desires are not too far out of reach.
Dale
Earnhardt Jr. slipped a spot in the standings last weekend after the Michigan race, but with
as much consistent success that Dale has had at Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS), I
think that the chase is still in reach for the #88 car. Dale might be looking for a win to curve his
winless streak in the Cup Series, but it is the continuous Top Ten and Top
Fives that will put him into the chase.
Will Dale be a Cup Contender this season? No way.
But it’s getting in to the Top spots this season that can set up a
driver with some pseudo-champion momentum that may give them the opportunity
next season. Dale’s got two Top Ten’s
his last two times at Bristol. If the car doesn’t keel over on him he just
may take that spot he lost in the standings back and gain some more ground on
the drivers who are in his way for the twelfth position.
Jimmie
Johnson certainly knows how to turn up the heat and cause excess stress
to the other drivers who are competing for wins every weekend. Jimmie finished eighth in last year’s Sharpie
500 and followed that up with a win at BMS back in March of this year.
Happy Birthday to my daughter VBA who turns 11 on Saturday.
