Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen

It could
have been anybody’s win last Monday at Pocono, but NASCAR Nation is sure glad
that it happened for Denny Hamlin. Denny lost his Grandmother and wanted nothing
more than to take home a trophy in honor of her. Besides the emotional win, the entire race
proved to be constantly changing. Denny
may not get another win this weekend, but he will surely see himself with a Top
10 like he did last season. How did Jimmie Johnson go three laps down and still finish in
13th? Pocono Raceway is two
and a half miles long and it takes a long while to go a lap down. Talk about luck. Jimmie will not need any luck this race since
he walked away last year with a Top 10 and usually ends up contending for the
win at Watkins Glen.
Watkins
Glen is the second road course that is visited by the Sprint Cup Series each season
and one of the many tracks that seems to elude several drivers. Michael Waltrip has even replaced himself with Patrick Carpentier in order
to ensure that his #55 car will do better than with him at the wheel. There are other drivers on the roster for
this Sunday’s race who thrive whenever you put them on a track with multiple
left and right turns. Juan Pablo Montoya is targeted to get a win. Juan has been getting closer and closer to Victory Lane every
weekend and this weekend is the one for him.
Marcos Ambrose is also going to put on a
good show for the race since he is very familiar with road course and high
rates of speed. Other drivers that are
not full time for the Sprint Cup series usually show up for the road course
races, but none of them have really been a threat to competition. Road course ringers need to step up their
game.
Kyle Busch needs a
repeat of his last performance at Watkins Glen in order to put him back into
the race for the chase. Kyle needs to
transfer his success from the Nationwide series to the
Cup series since he is matching records and the leader in points. I understand why Kyle races a much as he can
in whatever series will have him, but I think it would be in the best interest
of himself and Joe Gibbs Racing if he cut out some of the unneeded races and
focus more on the races that pays his bills.
