Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500

1:00 pm – ESPN
Denny Hamlin - 2009 Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 winner!
Best wishes and a
speedy recovery to Jack Roush.
Denny
Hamlin puts every other driver in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series to shame
when he competes at Pocono Raceway.
Denny has raced at Pocono more than half of the time that the Cup Series
best have and he has twice as many wins at the raceway (Jeff Gordon has four
wins also, but it took him 35 races get those victories and only took Denny
nine). I know it’s just downright
disgusting. Another win this weekend
will push Denny ahead of Jimmie Johnson with six
total wins and ultimately put him first in line in the
Chase based on the current Chase structure.
Denny may have not have happen to mention that he is running the Camping
World Truck Series race at PR so he will go into Sunday’s race with an
advantage over everyone else.
Speaking of current Chase structure,
talk has come from NASCAR Chairman Bill France about changing the venue of some
of the tracks and altering the schedule to completely reorganize which tracks
are in the final ten races of the chase.
I even heard (you might want to grab hold of something or sit down) that
the Daytona 500 may be held at the end of the season instead of starting it
off.
Poor Juan Pablo Montoya and poor Brian
Pattie. The #42 may be
getting a new crew chief soon after the disaster of an ending to the race at
the Brickyard last weekend at Indy.
Brian asked for a four tire change, which in a worst case scenario would
lose Juan a few spots in the running order, but Juan ups the ante and puts his
car into the wall. Juan and his crew may
just have to put their hopes of winning at Indy in the NASCAR Series on hold
for a while. The elusive track has a
grudge against Juan and doesn’t look like it will be giving up anytime
soon. Just remember, it took Dale Earnhardt to win the Daytona 500 twenty years. One motivating factor for Juan this Sunday is
that he has performed well at PR and finished in the Top Ten his last two races
there.
Clint
Bowyer, who is in the last place for the Chase can maintain his current
position if he duplicates the way he ran Pocono back in June or last August
with two Top Tens. Clint may not have
the caliber to win a race this season, but that doesn’t mean a Top Five isn’t
in order for his performance.
Kurt Busch
complains and complains about the surface of the triangle track because of the
bumps and groves and the difficulties he and other drives face throughout the
race, but two Top Ten finishes in his last two races do not backup his claims. Just run your race Kurt.
