Finally, NASCAR Nation gets to watch a road course race.  There is going to be right turns and more than four corners this weekend at Infineon Raceway (IR).  One other additional benefit to road courses is that it brings out the road course experts that we don’t get to watch all season.  Patrick Carpentier, Boris Said, Brian Simo, Ron Fellows, Max Papis, and P.J. Jones will all be making an attempt to race this Sunday.  I wish them all the luck in the world because I would love to see them race more often in NASCAR at any level.  We need more sponsors!!!

Of course we will have our regular season drivers who look forward to racing at a non-oval track along with the ringers.  Juan Pablo Montoya is a driver to think about right out of the gate.  Juan is coming off a Top 10 finish last weekend at Michigan and is a winner (2007) at IR out of only two starts.  Last year’s winner, Kyle Busch is looking to get out of his runner up streak and finish first again.  Last season’s race at IR seemed effortless for Kyle since he led 78 of a 110 lap race and started from 30th position.  Jeff Gordon was a runner up himself last Sunday at Michigan International Speedway and holds the most wins (5) out of the active driver roster at IR.  Jeff finished third last season at IR and has the preverbial momemtum with him for this ten-turn road course.  The great thing about road courses is that they are so unpredictable and exciting at every left and right turn.

Carlos Pardo – NASCAR Mexico Series driver lost his life Sunday June 14, 2009 doing something that he loved.  NASCAR honored Pardo with the win since he was leading the race when he hit a concrete barrier with three laps to go.  Any death in racing is something that NASCAR Nation morns forever.
