Last weekend I stated that Denny Hamlin should be able to pick back up where he
left off in 2006 and possibly win again at Pocono. Boy, did Denny have some horrible luck with a
crappy Toyota
engine on Sunday. Denny unfortunately
dropped five spots in the point standings and is only one point ahead of Mark Martin who is in thirteenth.
If you are wondering or asking
yourself why Dale Earnhardt Jr. is listed as the
winner of the last LifeLock 400, you are not confused
or mistaken and I didn’t make a typo.
Dale Jr. did actually post a win in the 2008 season. Dale’s change in crew chiefs may pay out in
the long run, but I don’t expect him to perform as well as he did last year at
Michigan International Speedway (MIS).
It would be nice if Dale could atleast get
himself a Top 5 so Junior and NASCAR Nation can get
off his back.
Kasey Kahne had a decent run last Sunday at Pocono even
though he finished fourteenth; Kasey was very competitive for most of the
race. Kasey was the runner up for the
last year’s race in June and has a 50/50 chance of getting a Top 5 or a Top 10
based on his stats for the ten times he has raced at MIS.
Another driver to watch during this
weekend’s Sprint Cup race is Carl Edwards. Carl has been eating away at the points chase
and is slowly getting back his momentum and becoming a contender again. Carl has an impressive two wins, 5 Top 5’s,
and 8 Top 10’s out of only nine starts at Michigan International Speedway. Carl finished seventh last year and is
sporting an average finish of 6.6 each time he races at MIS. Roush teammate Jamie
McMurray has been improving his position at RFR by finishing closer and
closer to the Top 10 in his last three races.
Last June Jamie finished his 400 laps in tenth place.
