Tony Stewart- 2009 Pocono 500 Winner!
Fare-thee-well, Fox Sports. Oh, how I will miss thee. In a perfect world, Fox Sports would be the monopoly
of sports broadcasting. A race isn’t the
same to me unless the green flag is waved simultaneously with the melodic sound
of Darrell Waltrip’s “Boogity,
Boogity, Boogity, Let’s go Racin’ boys.” I
honestly smile every time I hear it.
Cheesy or not, it is a staple of Fox Sports and NASCAR and will be in
NASCAR as long as DW is willing to commentate the races. I will welcome TNT for the next six races,
but with a marked void. TNT comes into
the NASCAR schedule at Pocono Raceway (PR) noting the half way point of the
first twenty-six races before the Chase.
Pocono
Raceway is one of the larger tracks on the NASCAR circuit at 2.5 miles. With the 500 miles that are slated for this
Sunday, it is exhausting to think of completing the entire race in a
competitive fashion when the drivers just completed the longest race of the
season at Charlotte
a week ago. Normally, NASCAR would be
venturing a bit more southeast to Dover,
Delaware where the race is
shorter and doesn’t test the longevity of the drivers. Because of these back to back iron man type
tracks, the drivers who are going to finish up front are some of the same
drivers who finished in the Top Ten last Sunday in North Carolina. Pick a Busch brother, any Busch brother and
expect them to race up front. Kurt Busch took home the checked last weekend and Kyle Busch wasn’t far behind finishing in 3rd. Jeff Gordon barely missed the Top Five by finishing sixth on Sunday,
but the #24 car is aching for a win and he might just get it at PR.
This time during the racing season,
Tony Stewart usually starts to come alive. Tony won this 500 mile race last June and
finished in the Top Ten in the fall race at PR.
A couple of underdogs that usually
don’t hit the radar for being competitive at PA’s
superspeedway are Juan Pablo Montoya and Sam Hornish Jr. Both drivers have
finished in the Top Ten their last two races at Pocono. So, if you have used up all of your better
drivers thus far in your fantasy league, here are a couple of drivers you’d
never expect to put into your line up.
Don’t forget to check out Tony
Stewart’s annual Gillette Fusion ProGlide Prelude to
the Dream at Eldora Speedway on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 on HBO Sports Pay-Per-View
for only $24.95. Tony has switched it up
this year and the drivers are grouped into teams. The proceeds of the winning team will be
donated to a children’s hospital in Indiana, Ohio, North Carolina or Tennessee.
