It has been said that the driver who wins NASCAR’s All-Star Race has the best chance to win the next race on the schedule which happens to be at the same track; Lowe’s Motor Speedway (LMS).  It holds true for last year’s races in which Kasey Kahne won both of them back to back, but Kasey also went on to win the Pocono 500 two weeks later.  Is it the momentum and personal pride from the All-Star race win that gives these drivers some extra mojo or is it something a little more complex than that?  I believe that it is various parts of everything.  Continued success at LMS is a compilication of momentum, consistency at LMS, and the recent running of the All-Star Race being fresh in the driver’s mind.  Will Tony Stewart, the reigning champion of the All-Star Race, win again this Sunday at LMS?  I say he has got a fantastic chance.  He just won last Saturday, is ranked 5th for the best average finish at LMS, and Tony is 2nd in the point standings.  That right there is a recipe for continued success this weekend.  By the way Tony, Happy Birthday.

Oh, but don’t think the race this weekend is only going to be the Tony Stewart Show.  Jimmie Johnson and teammate Jeff Gordon are the all time winners out of active drivers at LMS with 5 wins a piece.  Not to mention that Jimmie Johnson also holds the best average finish (11.2) at LMS.  If you don’t want to see a Hendrick owned stock car up front, you can also look for Carl Edwards to put on a great show this weekend.  Carl has a phenominal six Top 10’s out of eight total starts at LMS.

Drivers this weekend have to endure the longest race of the season.  You think a five hour road trip is a little long to drive and very tiring, try doing that at 150 mph with no bathroom breaks or rest stops to stretch your legs.  Does that clue you in as to why most of the drivers are pretty thin?  Yes, there are some exceptions, but for the most part, there is not a weight problem in the sport of NASCAR.

Have a few Coca-Colas and smile this weekend watching one heck of a race.
