First and foremost, since I am a huge Dale Earnhardt fan, I must say Happy 58th
Birthday Dale. Secondly, I must say what
a tragedy NASCAR nation experienced today by loosing legendary journalist David Poole.
There are thousands of auto racing writers in the world, but David was a
writer who lived and breathed NASCAR.
David, say “Hi” to Dale for us in NASCAR heaven.
On a higher note (well at least for
me), I will be attending this weekend’s race in Virginia (Both Nationwide and
Sprint Cup). It has been way too long
since I have been to this track and a highlight for me will be seeing my
favorite driver, Kasey Kahne. Richmond International Raceway (RIR) was the
first track that Kasey experienced the awesome feel of Victory Lane (2004). Kasey finished tenth last season for RIR’s spring race and I am hoping to see him win again.
Clint Bowyer
who is defending his only win last season at RIR may have a chance to
make it another Top ten under the lights, but I think he will have too much
competition this weekend to repeat his victory.
Kyle Busch has
been winless the last four races this 2009 season. Based on Kyle’s success at racing in general,
the #18 is due to lead the last lap of this race. NASCAR nation has put a lot of focus on the
success and great fortune Kyle has bestowed upon himself and Joe Gibbs Racing,
but did anybody stop and think how much money these wins allotted Kyle’s bank
account. Last season alone, Kyle
deposited $ 6,617,595. OMG! He could be adding another $ 226,550 (That is
how much Clint Bowyer won last season) this Saturday.
Local boy Denny
Hamlin will still be trying to impress his friends and neighbors of Virginia this weekend at
RIR. Denny has tried six times to win
the Saturday night race, but has fallen as short at by a few positions four of
the races. It just might be his time. It always makes for a great race when someone
like Denny wins it for local fans. I am
not even from VA and I will be pulling for him too.
