Petty Pressure
First, Kyle Petty had to sit out the race at Martinsville Speedway because he did not qualify on speed. Second, Bobby Labonte is loosing his General Mills sponsor to a Richard Childress driver that has yet to even be name in 2009 and they have been with Petty Enterprise (PE) for the last nine years. Third, Bobby Labonte's contract with Petty Enterprises runs out at the end of this year and he is currently working for RCR in the Nationwide Series. PE might be loosing Bobby to RCR to drive the 33 car next year. Fourth, Kyle Petty is relinquishing his ride to Chad McCumbee to see if he can get the #45 in the show for Sunday. I have read lately, that devoted fans of Kyle Petty, are hoping that he retires soon because it seems he has lost his competitiveness. I have always respected Kyle and I hope that whatever he does it is what he wants and it's going to make him happy in NASCAR. Best wishes Kyle.

Front Line Finishers

Jeff Burton
Richard Childress Racing - Chevrolet
Point Standings: 1st
Wouldn't it be great if Jeff could take home another win this season? Jeff is Mr. Top 10 when it comes to TMS. Overall he finished 1st in April and 6th in November of 2007.

Denny Hamlin
Joe Gibbs Racing - Toyota
Point Standings: 8th
That win last weekend at Martinsville pushed Denny all the way into chase contention. Denny has been to TMS five times and has a Top 5 and 3 Top 10's.

Jimmie Johnson
Hendrick Motorsports - Chevrolet
Point Standings: 10th
Its official, all three of the top guys at Hendrick Motorsports are in the Top 12 and in chase contention. I could mention something about Casey Mears, but why? Anyways it seems as though Jeff Gordon and Jimmie are trading the spotlight every weekend. This Sunday it is Jimmie's turn and he might actually be able to get up front and contend for the win. Jimmie averages a Top 10 finish every time he races at TMS.

Matt Kenseth
Roush Fenway Racing - Ford
Point Standings: 15th
If you watch the race last weekend at Martinsville, you would have noticed that Matt seemed to spend more time spinning out than driving forward. Luckily for Matt, Texas isn't as short as Martinsville and he will have a lot more room to move around. In both of the races last season, Matt finished 2nd. Maybe he can go for the win this time and add a second one to his Texas resume.

Last Lap Challengers

Martin Truex Jr.
Dale Earnhardt Incorporated - Chevrolet
Point Standings: 13th
When I checked out the stats for Martin at Texas I was very surprised to find out how well he runs at TMS. He might not have a win here, but he matches Denny Hamlin in stats with a Top 5 and 3 Top 10's. He is a little more of a risk to pick than Denny, but not by too much.

Jamie McMurray
Roush Fenway Racing - Ford
Point Standings: 30th
Boy did Jamie save his preverbal driving butt by pulling out an 8th place finish at Martinsville Speedway last Sunday. He moved from being on the bubble in driver points, to getting into the Top 35 in drivers points by moving up to 30th. Jamie is going to be able to move up a few more spots this weekend at TMS. He finished 5th and 9th in the spring and fall race.

Bottom 35 Feeders

Texas Motor Speedway is a pretty generous track to a lot of the NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers. The ones that you are going to find not racing so well at TMS are the usual suspects that usually don't run well anywhere else.
