Martinsville Minutes
A grandfather clock is usually
just an heirloom you receive from older relatives. This is not so if you win at Martinsville. The winner at Martinsville gets to take home the
biggest trophy that NASCAR has to offer.
This grandfather clock is not something you can pass over if you
happen to visit the home of one of the past winners. It is a coveted trophy that all drivers
want to see every time they go home.

Finishers
|
|
Jeff Gordon
Hendrick Motorsports –
Chevrolet
Point Standings: 1st
|
|

Let’s add another Top ten to Jeff’s stats this season for
his fourth place finish at Bristol
last Sunday. I am going to take a huge
leap and say that this weekend is Jeff’s weekend. Worst case scenario for the #24 team will be
another Top ten, but I think that Steve and Jeff’s main goal is getting into
victory lane. Jeff finished second last
March to Denny Hamlin.
|
|
Denny Hamlin
Joe Gibbs Racing – Toyota
Point Standings: 8th
|
|

Denny hasn’t had a chance to make his presence know for JGR,
since Kyle Busch is in the lime light for his success and Joey Logano is just
making news based on his failures. Denny
Hamlin is this race’s defending champion and looking to keep his Martinsville trophy all to
himself and not sharing with his media grabbing teammates.
Jimmie Johnson
Hendrick Motorsports –
Chevrolet
Point Standings: 9th
|
|

And everybody in the stands stood up and cheered because our
NASCAR champion finally scored a Top five.
Whatever. It is not like it is
the first time and it definitely is not going to be the last time. Wait, don’t sit down yet because Jimmie is
probably going to get another one this weekend at MS and the weekend after next
and the weekend after next. It is time
for the Jimbo, with five o’clock shadow, to go go.
Contenders
Clint Bowyer
Richard Childress Racing
– Chevrolet
Point Standings: 3rd
|
|

Clint the quiet one.
Every season there is a driver that pulls through the ranks of NASCAR
without the slightest bit of noise or detection and this 2009 season it will be
Clint. Clint has silently crept into the
third place standing without anyone paying attention. Look for Clint to hush his way into a Top ten
this Sunday just like he did last Spring.
Mark Martin
Hendrick Motorsports –
Chevrolet
Point Standings: 31st
|
|

So far, the only thing that Mark has been able to do with
Hendrick is make two poles, one Top ten, and two blown engines. Nice Job.
At least Mark has a chance to make his own luck at Martinsville because that is where Mr. Used
to be consistent is consistent regardless of what he is driving. Mark has 42 starts at MS and a remarkable 21
Top 10’s. Nicer job.

“What happened to the action at Bristol?”
Tony – Alabama
Any driver would say that a race without a wreck is a
success. I know a lot of NASCAR fans
were expecting to see a lot more crashed, but thanks to the experience of
the drivers and the COT, NASCAR Nation is looking at less wrecker action
and more racing action.
