Daytona 500
February 14, 2010 (Sunday) 1:00 pm – Fox

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!
The Great American Race - Man made lightning
and thunder in Daytona Beach,
Florida. NASCAR finally made many awaited changes to the
Daytona track formula by allowing larger restrictor plates which allows more
power and speed, bump drafting in the corners, and allowing three different
chances to allow the race to finish under green. With the Budweiser Shootout
and two Gatorade duels already completed at Daytona International Speedway
(DIS), the drivers of the Sprint Cup Series can focus on the most important
race of the 2010 season; the Daytona 500.
Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, and Kasey Kahne started off this season with wins at DIS and
all three have the same opportunity to take the coveted trophy this Sunday. Kevin Harvick is
back to using Richard Childress Racing’s engine package that works, Jimmie
Johnson is a four time champion so of course, he has to win right out of the
gate, and Kasey Kahne is driving a Ford for the
second time this year and the second time in his Cup career. Elliott Sadler
and Kurt Busch finished fifth place or better
for the 2nd Gatorade Duel and both drivers finished in the Top Ten
for both races at DIS in 2009.
A Driver’s Dream
Words inspired by Bob Seger’s
“Still The Same”
You always won, every time you raced a track
You’re so damn good, no ones gotten to you yet
Every time they were sure they had you caught
You were faster than they thought
You took turn four and beat the clock
You always said, the cars would never do you wrong
The trick you said was never race the chase too long
Daytona’s fare, the only risk that you would take
The only loss you could forsake
The only pass you couldn’t fake
A driver’s dream
I raced against you yesterday
Moving race to race
No driver standing in your way
Burning up the track
Strong enough to make you fly
A driver’s dream
Your driving shines
There you stood, everybody watched you win
I just watched your number wave
Don’t you wish that you could stay?
A driver’s dream
A driver’s dream
Moving race to race
Some things should never change
Daytona dreams
